Pirouettes

More Ballerina Back
via Psych101
... I'm in a ballet studio dancing. I'm alone except for one other dancer on the far side of the studio. My boss [in waking life] walks into the studio, without saying a word, and starts supporting me while I do a tendu exercise in center. For some reason I'm having trouble keeping my balance, but he's actually helping.

Then he says "do pirouettes." He grabs my shoulder as I fall off balance. Actually he's very close to me and touches my waist as I turn. I'm unsure of what is happening because he's not being at all inappropriate. But that's what I was expecting.

He says "now on your own." And as suddenly as he showed up he leaves. I'm a little confused about what just happened but I'm still focused on dancing so I begin to do pirouettes. And I can do them perfect...

Snowflakes

SnowFlake
via Karl W.
... I'm in a courtyard in the springtime. The grass is a deep green, and soft from the melted snow. It's snowing. The snowflakes are huge - like a foot in diameter. They're really fluffy. I'm happy, and amazed. I keep picking snowflakes out of the air and holding them up in the palm of my hand. I hold one, look at it and think that there is so much perfection in nature...

Sliding (out of control)

... I'm with my mom, walking through this big mall-like building (but I think I'm at work). The floors are smooth marble. There's a long down-hill and I decide to slide, just like a penguin, on my belly all the way down the ramp. I'm kind of having fun - and it's definitely faster than walking! But the overall mood is sombre.

I keep walking and it turns into a restaurant. I sit in a booth and my mom sits across from me. I'm relieved to see her, like I wasn't sure she was going to meet me there. She says

"Heather, even though our band disbanded, I'll still see you." Phew, I think, ok good. I was afraid that because this band we were in together dissolved that I'd never see my mom again...

Long Swim

Buoys.
via morganashlee
... I have to swim across the ocean; not literally all the way across the ocean, but really far. I think I can do it, but I'm a little nervous. I have to though, so I start swimming. There's buoys marking the path that I have to swim, so I know I'm going the right way. I'm swimming really fast and easy; I'm conscious of my form and how the water feels when I stroke my arms. I think I sense something under me and though I can't see into the water I can make out large form in the water below me. A shark? A ray? Nothing? I keep swimming and try not to think about it...

40$ Tattoos

City Street
via The Sound Machine
... I'm outside in a sketch neighborhood with my brother and a friend. I heard from another friend that in the evenings tattoo artists do tattoos right on the street for really cheap. And it's legit - they're from tattoo shops and everything! I decide to go find the guy I'm planning on getting a tattoo from. Across the street there's a guy holding a big hand-written, neon yellow sign: "Tattoos 40$."

We keep walking. We turn down a street that's more deserted. There's a guy walking towards us in the distance, and suddenly there's a guy on what appears to be a huge brown furry dog/monster beast galloping towards us. I'm startled but not too concerned, but my friend starts running. "Let's get outta here!" And I trust him so I start running too.

We make it back to safety and I look at my phone. The location says I was just in the South side of Chicago. Yeah that was a bad neighborhood, good thing we got out of there...

3 Bathrooms

... I'm in a new apartment - I just moved in. It's all "vintage" with beige carpeting. It's a two bedroom and I have a roommate. I walk out of my room into the hallway and into one of the bathrooms. I remember that the apartment has 3 bathrooms. Why do you need 3 bathrooms? That's ridiculous. Two, yes - but three? Why does anyone need three bathrooms in a house...

Art

... I'm getting some artwork framed; some of my own drawings and a large map. I'm at the framing shop and the lady is laying all the art on a table. For some reason I'm getting the big map laminated.

Now I'm outside with my friend from high school. I'm talking to her about this art, and trying to point out a statue in the distance. I drew the statue and I'm pretty proud of how it turned out...

The Dock

Lilypad dreams
via toastforbrekkie
... I'm standing at the very end of a long dock, with my family. There's something wrong with it so I saw the entire side of it off. But my dad says it's still uneven. I walk back up the dock, but since I sawed it there's no anchor points and it starts warping. Right by the shore I fall in the lake. I can swim fine, but I feel seaweed on my legs; it gives me shivers, gotta get out! I get back up on the dock and my dad is talking to me about fixing it. I help him by throwing the rope back under the anchoring rock...

Waiting and Running

via Dirty Bunny
... I'm at a group retreat, like a girl scout convention, and it's in someone's private home. I walk to the bathroom but someone is in there so I stand by the door to wait. A troop of girls comes running by - giggling and having fun. I see my friend's daughter; she's smiling and laughing.

I remember that there's only one bathroom in the house - I should run back and get my shower stuff before there's a huge line! I'll wait until after I go to the bathroom though. Some girl comes and stands right in front of me. The other girl comes out and she tries to budge in

"Excuse me! what are you doing? I was here waiting first." I say to her and force my way ahead of her. She tries to argue with me but I'm not going to listen to that! I slam the door. Inside the bathroom there's a poster of Vegas. When I wash my hands the bar of soap is really scratchy and it hurts. The water is icy cold and I'm having trouble washing off all the soap.

I run across the green grassy yard to the other house so I can get my shower stuff. It's my old neighborhood and I'm running to my childhood friend's house. I go to the back - but when I run to the door it's covered over in brick! I have to use the second back door. I run inside and see another girl. She says to me "I hate sharing a bathroom. She's going to be my sister-in-law and I don't even want to share a shower! Does that sound weird?" Umm, ok. I don't say anything and run up the stairs two at a time. I have to get there before the line is too long!...

- Time Out -

What are dreams?

Yes - I know - the purpose of this blog is to explore that very question. But why do we dream about something that is so far off what we experience and believe in our waking life?

Last night I had a dream about a person, in a situation that has never crossed my mind before, nor do I want it to again. It does not reflect how I feel about this person currently or ever in the past. Yet in my dream, I liked it.

I did some quick research and both Cosmo and Ladies Home Journal made an interesting point about unsettling dreams. That we are attracted to the qualities that person possesses or desire a closer relationship with that person in our waking life. It makes sense; the content in your dreams is often obscure and seemingly unrelated to anything you know to be true, but are actually symbols and representative of your deep emotional truths.

There She Goes...!

via *insert fancy name here*

... my friend C and I have tickets for the Miss America Pageant. They're for balcony seating but we really want to try to get into the main floor. I'm really confident that I can get us in. I know I can do it. We walk up to the ticket taker and C says they're main floor seats. The ticket lady says no - so I step in and start explaining that they are, oh and here I'll prove it. I find the receipt, which is folded to hide the seating location information, and show her the price.

"Oh yes, those are floor seat prices. Ok, go ahead."

... now I'm wearing a blue formal dress and I'm in a large retail store, like a Target. I'm practicing my walk because I've entered the Miss America Pageant at the last minute. I'm thinking of all the things I need to do to get ready!

- I want to find a different formal dress
- what about shoes?
- it's going to be fun
- I have a necklace I like, but I can't wear the same one for every outfit
- swimwear...
- what am I going to bring all my makeup in?
- it's going to be fun
- I want to wear a tiara, but is that in bad taste?

I keep practicing my walk...

The Short Wedding Dress

via i-weddingdresses
... I'm in a bridal salon, as a guest or an employee. I'm not in the wedding party or know the guests. I'm drinking red wine. The salon attendant shows me the bride's dress - it's really short.

"I saw someone try that on yesterday!" I'm giggling. Who wears a wedding dress like that? Everyone will see her *ahem* if she's not careful!...

We Are Going Somewhere

... I'm at the airport with K. The airport looks like one of the buildings where I went to college. There's a short line for security and at the end everyone has to scan a picture; mine is a drawing of an orange kitty. When the scanner-man scans mine it crops and enlarges just the cat. Everyone likes it.

Now we're waiting at the airport - our flight is delayed. It's been delayed for a LONG time so K and I decide to go out for a walk.  As we're leaving (we're on a bus) we see the people who we were waiting for! They're all dressed up like brown bears. Now we have to go back...
